Dear Friends of Democracy,
Hans-Thomas Tillschneider, deputy AfD parliamentary group leader in the state parliament of Saxony-Anhalt, has congratulated dictator Putin on his re-"election" in Russian and German.
That’s what he wrote on X:
“Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin was elected President of the Russian Federation with over 87%. Congratulations to him and to the Russian people. I would be happy if our government protected our interests the way Putin protected the interests of the Russian people!”
This is just one of many examples that make it more than obvious that whoever votes for the partly right-wing extremist Alternative for Germany (AfD) in this election year is in favour of losing the possibility of voting in the future. Because a party admiring authoritarian and dictatorial leaders will, given the opportunity, follow their role models.
I really can’t believe that about 20 per cent of people in Germany are about to vote for such a party. But that's how it is. The AfD does not hide its ambitions. Anyone who wants to see can see. To put it another way: The enemies of democracy would not sit in the parliaments of democracy if there were not so many enemies of democracy in our democracy.
There is a lot at stake this year.
✊,
Johannes
