What strengthens the extreme fringes in democracies

What?
This happens when two threat scenarios overlap in the public eye. One is when it hits people's wallets. So when social security is threatened. The second point is when people get the impression of increasing foreign and cultural infiltration.

That's enough?
Something else has to be added. That is the feeling that neither the government nor the democratic opposition has solutions for their supposed problems.

Then they vote for right-wing extremists?
They move not only to the extreme right but also to the left political fringe. In any case, they will then say goodbye to the democratic parties - and thus also to democracy. 

How To Save Democracy
The solutions arise from the description of the problems. Economic growth is needed to give a sound feeling of social security. Secondly, a perceived or actual threat from outside must be combated by doing more for security, be it through a strong military power to reduce the likelihood of military attacks or by ensuring an immigration policy that keeps illegal immigration down. In any case, a large proportion of voters from extremist parties move back to the centre if they get the impression that their issues are being dealt with there.
