Just this photo today.
A detail of a Swiss locomotive (it’s from this series). The window reflects the train station in Buchs, a municipality in the canton of St. Gallen, and snow-capped mountains in the back.
I took this photo on 9 March 2024 when I travelled through Switzerland using perhaps the most democratic means of transport: the train.
Switzerland is the European leader in punctuality. 96.3 per cent of trains there are on time, meaning they are less than three minutes late. This is despite the logistical challenge here being particularly high: The country has one of the densest railway networks in the world. However, the government is also investing heavily. In 2022, Switzerland spent 450 euros per capita on its rail infrastructure. By comparison, Germany is far behind at 114 euros per capita.
See you in Europe,
Johannes
