Friend of Democracy,
Do you think the Pride movement is here to stay?
During my German childhood and youth (I was born in 1971), what we now call the Pride movement was a fringe phenomenon. Far away from the mainstream. Those who were sexually "different" were often mocked, ridiculed, and excluded. That has changed. Yes, there is still hostility. Populists are trying to instrumentalise the Pride movement by attempting to mobilise a counter-majority. Us against them. Just like populism has always worked. However, I firmly believe these friend-enemy dividers are fighting a losing battle. Because those who were once on the margins are now the mainstream. Of course, there's no guarantee it will stay that way. But there is reasonable hope that people will no longer want to give up on the diversity that is rooted in freedom, isn’t it?
See you in Democracy,
Johannes Eber
