EPI was launched in 2020 by a group of major European banks and payment providers. It aims to create a unified, pan-European payment solution that competes with big U.S. players (Visa, Mastercard, PayPal) and Chinese solutions.

The European Union imports 80 per cent of its digital technologies, especially from the US and China. Thanks to Trump, there’s now a countermovement. In many places. European digital companies are in demand.

Perhaps Trump is a kind of Mephistopheles for Europe, who intends evil and brings about good. Because, in the face of the threat, the EU member states realise that they would fade into insignificance on their own, and their success depends on the success of cooperation.
