What makes the voters of Germany’s most popular party, the Alternative for Germany (AfD), tick?
Here are the results of a representative survey on democracy conducted by the polling institute Allensbach (Institut für Demoskopie Allensbach):
“Only a minority of the population—but 69 per cent of AfD sympathisers—are generally dissatisfied with the basic democratic order. While two-thirds of the population consider democracy the best form of government, only 37 per cent of AfD supporters share this view. The majority of the population is convinced that the country’s problems can be solved within the framework of the democratic order, whereas only 23 per cent of AfD supporters believe this.”1
Shocking, isn’t it?
