My Dear Friend of Democracy,
Democracy is quite good at creating wealth.
This prosperity has many faces. One is security. Because you have to be able to afford security.
And we can afford it better and better. Fatal accidents at work, for example, are becoming increasingly rare. In 1994, 3.7 people per 100,000 employed people died in work accidents in the European Union; today, the EU average has decreased to only 0.7.
By the way, in Bulgaria, where I took this photo below, on March 28th this year, the number is higher: 2.86 people per 100,000 die every year by accidents at work.
