My Dear Friend,
How do we save democracy?
By showing strength against those who want to destroy democracy from the outside.
Germany is currently showing such a strength in Lithuania.
German troops have started their first permanent foreign deployment since the Second World War.
The new heavy combat unit, the 45th Tank Brigade, will comprise 4,800 German soldiers and 200 civilian staff. It was announced in response to Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022 and is scheduled to reach full operational capacity by 2027.
Russian dictator Vladimir Putin has repeatedly clarified that the Baltic states should return to Russia's sphere of influence. However, most people in Lituania, Latvia and Estonia are not interested in doing so.
Who would willingly give up their freedom?
So, the calculation behind the military buildup is to prevent a war by convincing Putin that there is no chance of winning (another) war in Europe.
The greater the rearmament, the less hope for Putin.
See you in Democracy,
Johannes
