My Dear Friend,
How can we save democracy?
By learning from the past.
Here is an example from my hometown.
"The right bank of the Tauber was under fire from the Sprait by American artillery. A shell hit a house on Julius-Berberich-Straße, killing eight people, including Sparkassen director Emmerich Helmuth and his wife, who had sought shelter in the basement."
This is how World War II ended 80 years ago in Tauberbischofsheim, in the south of Germany.
There is a chronicle about this time and town (only in German).
It is a chronicle of horror that also shows how systematically, efficiently, and quickly the Nazi regime controlled all social institutions after 1933.
How did this succeed so quickly?
Certainly, because support for Hitler and his Nazi party was high. In the last elections in January 1933, 40 per cent of Tauberbischofsheim residents voted for the NSDAP.
✊ This chronicle serves as a strong argument for a democracy to withdraw support and the right to exist from those political parties whose presumed goal is to end democracy. Speculation must suffice here. Because by the time there is certainty, it's too late.
See you in Democracy,
Johannes
