My Dear Friend of Democracy,
Yesterday‘s election of Donald Trump is historic not only for the US but also for Europe. Since World War II, USA has protected and supported Western Europe.
This might end.
Europe faces a military threat and war by the world's largest country, it has to deal with an Asian economic superpower that is the biggest dictatorship that ever existed, and it is watching the most powerful military might slipping into autocracy.
The perils are an opportunity for Europe.
The opportunity to unity.
Because as the dangers grow, so does the desire for mutual support.
Perhaps the chances have never been better for Europe to unite more strongly - not least as a military force based on economic strength.
✊ Europe has all the potential for strengthening the continent. It has a common internal market for economic prosperity and a common interest: to defend our lives in freedom. It is up to us to turn the dangers into opportunities for a strong, democratic Europe.
