My Dear Friend,
How do we save democracy?
By writing about how to save democracy.
Like Karen Horn, Stefan Kolev and Julian F.Müller do.
More specifically, they have published a book called “Liberal Responses to Populism” that deals with what we can do against populism.
Why is fighting populism so important?
Because it can be a precursor to the abolition of democracy.
Here is why.
Populists are known to come to power with somewhat unfounded election promises. Once they are in power, it usually quickly becomes clear that they cannot keep their promises. When the electorate notices this, populists risk being voted out of office. Then, populists often start changing the rules of democracy, making it increasingly difficult to get rid of them.
This is one of many thoughts you can take away from this book.
Karen Horn and Stefan Kolev spoke about their book at the think tank Zentrum Liberale Moderne in Berlin, Germany, last week. They are great economic world explainers.

See you in Democracy,
Johannes
PS: If you want to read their book, borrow it from a library. Because it's way too expensive for a single buyer (hardcover: 129.00 euro; ebook: 109.95 euro).
