Sometimes you don't need history
Dear Friends of Democracy,
Should Taiwan 🇹🇼, officially the Republic of China (ROC), become a part of China, officially the People's Republic of China (PRC)? Should Ukraine 🇺🇦 become a part of Russia?
There are discussions about the "unification" of the states. Supporters often argue with history. Simply put, the argument goes that the states formed a unit in the past. That's why it must continue to be this way in the future.
I think you don't need to know anything about history to form an opinion about these potential unifications. In both cases, it would be a union of democracy and dictatorship. Both democracies do not want this unification. Both democracies would be extinct by dictatorships.
It is interesting to learn about the history of the states. But, in this case, this knowledge is not necessary to form an opinion. We should support Taiwan and Ukraine in their fight to preserve freedom.
